//Notebook sharing: dossyay naming #1
Naming a startup is tedious. There’s a lot to consider: is it memorable? can people pronounce it? does it say something about the product? does it look good? etc.
There’s a lot of names out there of very successful companies that don’t always adhere to those qualifiers, there’s also a lot of great names out there slapped on unsuccessful products.
There’s also the whole domain availability thing. This is something that was a huge pain and something that has obviously led to the huge .ly and .me party that everyone else is at, of which we’ll never be a part.
dossyay is a home for you on the web. A place for the things that matter to you, in one place. I was thinking it was an online dossier or sorts. So since dossier.com was gone, I checked the availability of some fun variations. dossyay.com was available and our brand was born. Looking back I think we were pretty lucky. I love what the name says, how it sounds, and most of all what it looks like.
Some of the other finalists before dossyay were 8oxes.com (Boxes, yeah have fun telling your friends that one) and pppush.com which just felt way too derivative of ffffound. Oh and another favorite was zzzello, the idea being that the site was where you’d start your day “zzz…hello”. Yeah, way too abstract.
dossyay!
